Degree Show fund raising

Recently our Degree program group having a fund raising event. We sells accessories, post card, note books, food and beverage(F&B). I'm part of the F&B selling desserts which is whoopie pie and fruit jellies. It was hectic period where once we submitted our projects and we start to work out for the fund raising, I do enjoy the time we have. One of our partners wanted us to produce few illustration for the post card selling, a lot of us came out some interesting visuals and of course a lot of students from our college bought most of them.

Final project in research mood

It has been awhile again where I have leave this blog for quite sometime as many excuses I wouldn't want to mention. I would like to jump straight to the point which I wanted to share here. The Self-initiated project, part of thesis project for final year has come, it will showcase in our own Degree Show exhibition if we get chosen by tutors and Degree programmers. This was the most nervous part, everybody were wishing to exhibit their own work including me. I'm still continue to show the progress here although my project has submitted.

The first  thing to do as usual I'll look out for subjects that I can work with.
I saw one of the work from Behance, it is a commercial advertisement about  fruits in school. It is also one of the communication ways to promote balance diet for children. The project is done by Young & Rubicam – Roma Agency  They also showed the progress of making behind the scene, everything is professionally done by the team. Absolutely appreciate and admire them a lot, I hope I can try out some of the work experience like them one day :D

Illustrated Book Animation video

    Finally! I have upload a video which I've done quite some time. It was some how my first attempt of creating this video with my friend's guidance. I have learnt about how to use basic After Effect software. It take quite some time to allows me to understand how does the software work, things like that requires practices. I would like to explore illustration in animation with other soft ware such as Adobe Flash. Personally, I prefer stop motion although it is very challenging it still give different essence of visual communication.  This video is to create for advertising or it is consider one of the promotional item where it helps to send the news less then a minute.

Self- initiated Project

This project is our final project and it's going to exhibit for our Degree show.  A little excited and worry at the same time. Course-mate and I have been figuring what are we going to do for our final project, definitely is individual project. Well, this project can be proceed from our previous semester project title. For now I am not so sure that my past project, content wise was a little board. So this time, I have to make it workable and functional. I had discuss the possibilities and guidelines with my tutor, but the most concern part is my content and context. I haven't fix them yet so there's no way I could proceed to production. It's a little struggle when it comes to this moment, which thinking what kind of possibilities that I can do with my strength. I actually gave an idea of infographics about health issue from the previous project, my tutor told me that it is challenging because I have to gather the information at the same time the visuals must be appealing. Now I'm not so sure about gathering the information within the time frame that we have is enough to produce a work. By the it's 5-6 weeks left from now, for this time I don't want to rush my work I do not chase for perfection either.

Anyways, get back to my topic I was thinking about food it's a little main stream because everybody knows about it but when it comes to illustration effect the perspective would be different. Personal main point is to bring the functionality of illustration to become a lifestyle in any kinds of way to both professional and non-specialist audiences. Why food again? well at first I thought about obesity which is part of the health issues and it's well known for my country(Malaysia). Who doesn't likes food anyway? If I just talk about health issue to the young ones some might not care, it may become preachy instead. Personally like food too but sometimes I'm not health specialist but I can see that food itself has it's own era and it has opportunity become a tool to convey message. It's not a  new thing to investigate as people started to use it in many forms such as art, music?, construction, scientific experience, engineering and son on; something edible to visual usage. I would like to try to produce any visual construction involving food, if I get the art direction right on track.

Food designing opens the opportunity of applying creativity and interaction on food. It maybe works on solution or may not but this gave me ideas of how they put different tools and function into the food.

I'm not sure about the gender but he/she did a good job of creating this animation.Some times we don't have to show the exact visuals of germs and bacterial because the purpose of illustration give us ways to create our very own unique character design to share with the audience.   

Inspiration from an Illustrator

Illustrated book cover design

Since then it's free flow for us to create our very own book, the design for the book definitely have to give the reader an idea to glance though. There's few part of the visual has been chosen for my cover. It's about Evan's adventure life ( book title) so I put on the main character for the front cover. The fonts are my own hand painted version to make it more illustrative. Meanwhile the back cover I'll put on some decoration with two characters because this book involve activities and exploration this would be part of the visual to speak the story.

                  

The process of illustrated book project

I guess this blog has put a side quite a while and actually I suppose to post my work progression. Is a little late but better than nothing :) My graphic novel progress has give me a way of personal experience. Last year Christmas I'm a little busy including outings and stuff so it definitely affects to my work. It looks a little rush but I'm glad to enjoy the whole progress by not forcing mood. I've done minimum 15 pages of the story board, I would want to expand it if I have extra time because of the timing I get to watch out other progress such as editing, positioning layouts and so on. I've submitted my work and I short of miss out scanning my story board sketches I guess I have to show the paintings and the final book for now.
